House with a Heart Senior Pet Sanctuary (HWAH) is at full capacity and cannot take any new residents.
Finding a temporary or permanent home for a senior pet may not happen quickly, but we applaud you for trying and encourage you to take the time to make a careful selection for your wonderful pet. Below are some resources to help you.
- How to Find Homes for Homeless Pets (a service of BestFriends.org).
- If you are considering giving up
your senior pet due
to incontinence, we strongly encourage
you to try doggy diapers.
They are available at major pet stores and the disposable incontinence pads are available at most grocery and drug stores.
- For
animals with behavior issues, training
information can be found online and in books. Also, you can find
Some organizations offer free workshops. Here is a link to a program local to us:

- HWAH Senior Pet Safety Net
While HWAH cannot take any dogs or cats, we have developed the HWAH Senior Pet Safety Net to get an email out to our network of over 1100 people. We use it to increase the chances of finding a home for some senior dogs or senior cats. To be considered for the Safety Net email, you must completely fill out the form below. All information is required, but if some information is not available due to the circumstances of the pet, indicate that on the form.
The completed form does not guarantee that an email will go out. If the email is sent, interested parties would contact YOU directly about your pet. Our role is strictly to assist getting the message out.
A picture increases the chances of having a pet adopted. Therefore, be sure to attach photo(s) of your pet to the online form.
